Third Sunday, No Project Linus

Last Sunday afternoon, instead of our regular Project Linus group in Independence, MO, Jodie and I were driving back from the first Quilts from the Bluff Quilt Retreat at Carol Joy Holling retreat center near Ashland, Nebraska. It was a fun weekend, though long and exhausting.

This month, I've been away from home more than I've been home. I started the month at my mom's for Labor Day weekend. Home for 2.5 days / 3 nights and then on the road to Albuquerque. Nine days / 10 nights in Albuquerque then the drive home. Three days & nights at home, then off to the quilt retreat.

Somehow, it takes me forever to get back into a normal routine after being away from home and the longer I'm away, the longer it takes. I'm not there yet. I have lots of photos and so much I can talk about. I'm going to try to get myself organized and start writing. Please be patient.

Scrappy Hearts Finished

Greetings from Albuquerque! I'm enjoying a visit with good friends. We've been to Santa Fe and the NM State Fair.

Scrappy Hearts quilt top

I finished the Scrappy Hearts quilt top last Wednesday and wanted to show you the result. The finished quilt top is approximately 48" by 67".

The heart block is very simple, just 3 patches, and designed for strip piecing, so you can make a bunch quickly. Unfortunately, with 2 inch strips, I wound up making a lot of blocks. I favor quick quilt projects and this one wasn't. That's why it took me 3 years to finish the quilt top.

Scrappy Hearts quilt top detail

I'm taking this top to the Quilts from the Bluffs retreat on the 19th. It started in our old Quilts from Cornerstone group, and I'm giving the top to Quilts from the Bluffs to finish and donate.

Hats for Charity - The August 4

Project: Hats for City Union Mission from local AT&T Telecom Pioneers.

Personal Goal: Make 48 hats in 2008.
Hats made in August: 4
Hats made Jan. thru August: 36

Surprise! Here's my hat report on the 2nd day of the month. I'm taking care of a few chores before I hit the road to Albuquerque on Thursday.

crocheted cap

Cap #1 is a spiral skull cap worked in half double crochet with front post double crochets creating the spiral design. The brim is alternating front and back post double crochets. The red yarn is part of an old, old skein of worsted weight yarn.

Cap #2 is the rainbow scrap hat that I worked in a continuous spiral. It was included in my August UFO / Scrap Busting reports.

crochet cap

Cap #3 is a "Formula" hat made with Red Heart Symphony. The main part of the hat is the color redwood. The center top and the edge of the brim are the color tundra.

ribbed cap

Cap #4 is the teen/adult ribbed cap pattern on my website. The green yarn is Red Heart Super Saver. The stripes were made with two small balls of off-white in 2 different shades. I need to add a photo to the pattern listing in Ravelry and the one on my website is too small. I couldn't find the original photo, so I made another hat.
